On multiple occasions, Brian Kernighan and Dennis Ritchie explained why certain syntaxes—declarations, arrays, casts, and so on—were chosen. I haven’t tracked down all of those explanations myself, so it would be helpful if a reader could clarify why a particular feature was designed that way, and what kind of parser they had in mind that made it practical.
