Once the basic stuff was working, I wanted to load TAP files directly, simulating cassette loading. This way it was much simpler to sync EAR with what it expected, without callbacks or the wrong abstractions that it had implemented. After such change, a few minutes later the emulator could load a TAP file emulating the cassette without problems.
Testing told me I used ~3,500 bytes for each frame - at 10 FPS, that’s ~35 KB/sec. While a nice T1 line could handle that, it’d easily saturate a 56k modem. And supporting even 1,000 clients would mean pushing 35 megabytes a second - way too much!
